We can be harsh critics, especially with ourselves. Practicing self-compassion lends us a moment to be kind and tender with ourselves.

Life is a journey that offers great opposition and adversity. We can be empathetic toward ourselves by allowing each mistake to be a catalyst of self discovery and personal transformation. We can be understanding of emotions that wash over ourselves, having faith that they can and will subside even in the aftermath of trauma. This must be our first great act of self love, to provide a safe place for our fears and grief to be present.
Resilience is fostered through self-compassion. We must lean into our sorrows and allow them to be met with tenderness. Healing cannot take place in the presence of judgment or criticism. We cannot become our best self until we process our fears, pain, and suffering. It is then that we can become friends with the person we are meant to be.
